Hi Ron,
  On my TD, the head is 1 1/2 inches from the forward edge of the
footwell. The timing chain cover is 3 1/4 inches from the nearest part of
the fender, where it is horizontal then turns down and vertical into the
engine space. Both measurements are with the measuring tape horizontal.
