Paint Spray Gun Questions

I'm thinking about buying a paint spray gun for some upcoming bodywork an=

 Will a spray gun rated for 7 CFM @ 40 psi work with a 2 HP compressor if=

use it intermittently (short strokes; small jobs)?  I can't afford a new
compressor, but figured that the air tank of my current machine would all=
ow
me to get enough air volume to spray small repair sections without proble=
m.
