Steve,
The only thing I could think of would be someone putting too much oil on the
shaft - it does require a tad to lubricate the cam and points where they
rub, and maybe the high revs just sprayed the excess around the inside of
the dizzy. It would seem very unusual if not impossible for oil to creep up
the shaft from the engine. You might try wiping it out every 10 miles or so
until the excess oil is gone.
