I can second that from experience (irrelevant anecdote follows). In my 
case the replacement floats also cured a weird "cut-out" I was getting at 
certain speeds. It seems that engine vibrations at that RPM caused a 
resonant vibration in the thin brass float arms, which proceeded to 
"dribble" the balls in the Grose-Jets like a Harlem Globetrotter routine, 
interrupting fuel delivery in a sputtering fashion. My mechanic said he 
had heard of similar cases with Grose-Jets, but hadn't realized it was 
related to the type of float.

But anyway, I think it took just one washer to set the clearance 
perfectly.
