timing chain tensioner

Is there anything I should be cautious of when assembling the timing
chain tensioner on my 76B (single chain)?  It's tense on the side with
the tensioner and there's slack on the other side.  Is that normal?  The
chain isn't old, it's just that this is my first time to ever do
something like this.  Thanks.
