Thanks Bill; but that is just it the clutch has seemed fine in all other
instances. I am going to check the PO who is still an enthusiast and
drives a GT and cb roadster. He and I have had some great mg chats. He
put me on this site actually. Terry are you out there??????Any comments?

Andy:

Sounds like a slipping clutch. Another test would be to accelerate
sharply
through the gears and pay attention to whether the clutch slips at gear
changes. My Healey seemed okay when I bought it, but when I took it for
spirited drives, the clutch slipped as I accelerated throug the gears.
It
needed other work, so I had a mechanic take on the clutch with a gearbox
and
overdrive rebuild. He showed me the clutch and it was well worn. In
fact,
the throughout bearing was down to the metal carrier.
