B cowl switch

Having decided with the help of mr Bentley that the switch is indeed
intended to turn off the dash lights i decided to find out why the one in
my GT disables the o/d switch so i spent the morning (and part of the
afternoon) dismantling the column - and sweating all over the interior
(its perhaps unwise to work inside the car in direct sunlight on an 85
degree day)
At first i rather wished i hadnt started , i dont know what happened in
there in the dim and distant past but somebody had had a field day with
several pieces of extra black wiring. Some of the wires had obviously
shorted out at some time since they were charred. The extra wires had
been connected in to what appeared to be several circuits effectively
joining them all together in the large connector thingy (technical
term!) by removing the two that went t the cowl dashlight switch and
reconnecting it to a vacant terminal it no longer disabled the o/d switch
but equally had no control over the dashlights which mercifully work
fine. This is going to need some more attention but i have to confess to
a sudden lack of confidence in what i thought was a perfectly servicable
electrical system - one wonders what else might have been so mightlily
bodged!
