A Trabiant is a small car (about the size of a Mini, a little bigger
maybe) with a two-stroke engine that was produced in the DDR (and maybe
USSR). Has a fiberglass body, as far as I remember. They are sort of a
"cult" thing here in Germany, although one still doesn't see that many.
There is one in my neighborhood. They were not well made, and they are
ugly. I think that the basic idea was to give the "common man" in the
communist countries something to drive.

I saw a German movie about a family travelling to the west in a
Trabant, but that is the only one I have every seen!
