Either the Perstor Ignitor or the Crane XR-700 will fit to the Lucas
electronic distributor just fine. Been there, done that. E-mail me if
you've got questions on the Crane installation.

Subject: Magnetic Pickup Source?

     Hi all,

I have the later Lucas electronic ignition (remote amplifier type) and
I believe that I have a bad pickup coil in the distributor.

     Symptoms:
     1. No spark (at all)
     2. No continuity between the two leads coming from the pickup.

Now there is a similar system on my motorcycle and the service manual
for it says those pickups should have ~500ohm resistance. I can find
no reference to a check procedure in the B manual (Haynes) so I am
     assuming the coil is open.

I looked in both the Moss and VB catalogs and neither one of them have
this pickup listed. Is there somewhere that I can get one of these?
And how much are we talking about?

On a related note. If I have to go with a new system, will the
aftermarket units work with a distributor already rigged for
electronic ignition? I have heard alot of good things about the
Pertronix unit recently, and I was hoping I wouldn't have to change
out my distributor if the magnetic pickup proves impossible to obtain.

     Thanks in advance,
     Rick Guynn
