    I may be stating the obvious, but whenever you have an
electrical fire that starts in your car, the safest thing to do is
to PULL THE BATTERY CABLE!!!  That will stop the source of the fire,
and you can normally find the fault, (follow the smoke), repair it,
and be off again without a major mishap.  If you've got a battery
disconnect switch, you're ahead of the game.
    Going even further, I feel that every car should have a fire
extinguisher in it, whether it's a '98 Jag or a '68 MG.  You never
know when it could come in handy.  I've seen one too many nice cars
burn down because there was no fire extinguisher handy, or the owner
panicked and forgot to disconnect the battery in the event of an
electrical fire.  For the sake of our cars, be safe!
