I was fooling around with the 1960 MGA this afternoon, and decided to
replace a worn and partially disconnected battery ground strap. One end
was attached to the frame next to the muffler/tailpipe mount and the
other was not attached, just laying against a bolt on the lower part of
the frame and battery box. The ground strap was short, about 5 inches
and obviously very corroded, no connector or any other obvious way it
attached to anything. The more I looked at it the less I could figure
out why a ground strap would be running from one part of the frame to
another part.

Pulled the battery cover, and saw the battery ground was a heavy duty
ground wire running from the battery to the rear end and was bolted to
the case of the rear end.

This is not right is it? I expect a prior owner may have run the ground
to the rear end at some past time, but why?

I added a new ground from the battery to the frame, but left the old
ground to the rear end in place.

Any ideas?
