Well, you say it happens under braking... I must say that sounds like
metal-to-metal contact, the most obvious explanation for which would be
worn shoes or pads. You say you recently did the rear brakes -- have you
pulled the drums to see if everything is still in order? Possibly
something has come loose inside and is being squeezed against the drum.
On the front, did you actually pull the wheels to look at the brake pads?
It's hard to evaluate both of them otherwise, and sometimes one will be
quite thick and the other worn through (due to a stuck piston).
Finally, have you checked that the handbrake is releasing properly? I've
never heard of this being a problem (usually it's the other way around)
but I suppose it's possible.
