Thanks for the suggestion, but I've removed and compared both jet bearings,
and they both have the washers, and both appear to be in good condition, at
least in that region (unworn). I think it's just a matter of thread
seizure. These carbs sat in a barn for quite a while. I also tried swapping
the jet bearings, to make sure that the surfaces inside the carb bodies
were the same, that is, exerting the same force on the mating surface. The
good one still works in the other carb, and the bad one is still bad. At
least I know the bodies are OK. There seems to be no place to grab the
sleeve firmly without crushing it in order to free the adjusting nut. But
anyway, we're talking about a $15 part here, so no big thing. Thanks
anyway.
