Before you spend alot of money at the shop that may not have done you
any favors last year, consider getting some beer and inviting a fellow
MG enthusiast in the area to do a clutch swap at your house. You should
be able to get the 3 piece clutch set for about $100 from one of the MG
supply sources. (get the alignment tool too)
It may sound like a daunting challenge, but you should be able to get a
step by step guide on the web, rent an engine hoist from a local rent
all company for about $30 for a day, and do it yourself with routine tools.
Once finished, you'll have saved a ton of money and learned a ton of
stuff, and big jobs like this on MGs won't be so daunting anymore.
If you have time while the old clutch is out, you could take it to a
shop (or two) and ask their advice on what caused the failure based on
looking at the failed parts.
