The V8 MGs will be coming to central Illinois for their annual meet this
Wednesday, May 26th. They can be found at the Rantoul National Aviation
Centre (former Chanute Air Force Base) in Rantoul, IL from noon to 4pm of
Thursday, where the registrants will be participating in an autocross
sponsored by the Champaign County Sports Car Club as well as 1/4 mile
individual runs against the Illinois State Police's radar gun. Friday will be
full of tech sessions for the V8 owner or "wanna-be" at Jumer's Castle Lodge
in downtown Urbana, IL. Over a dozen V8s are expected with additional
enthusiasts in attendance.
The 1999 Champagne British Car Festival will begin on Friday, May 28th. Theme
of the festival is "Pieces of Eight"...a pyrate theme with the featured car
being the MG V8! Activities include a murder mystery on both Friday and
Saturday night; a funkana on Saturday morning; cruise on Saturday afternoon;
high tea Saturday afternoon; dawn patrol cruise on Sunday morning; popular
vote all-British car display on Sunday with over 26 classes.
