Skye: As everyone before me has said, don't worry about getting a
computer and do take someone with you if you can or contact the
organization that is sponsoring the rally. Sometimes they can help you
find a navigator. On June 4th, I went on my first rally in 37 years.
I just got my 75 B street legal and it was the first time to drive it
more than 10 or 15 miles. I had tools and spares in the boot and I
convinced ny brother-in-law to navigate for us. It had been raining for
days, but we went without the top even in the car. The rally was put on
by the Cascade Sports Car Club of Portland, Oregon. It started at 6 PM
at a local mall and the first leg directed us to Portland International
Raceway. Once there, we got to do two timed laps around the track and
then on into the the foothills around and above Camas, Washington. We
never got lost, but we failed to record some times and some distances.
Needless to say, we placed dead last in the novice class. But we had a
ball. I think we laughed for two solid hours, had a great drive in the
hills, meet some really nice people and finished it all off with pizza
and beer. The crowning event was that the rally organizers presented
each of us with photographs taken as we drove around the racetrack. We
drove about 150 miles that evening and the B never missed a lick. I
can't wait to do it again.
