Actually, 1966-1973 standard beetle pans are used because they have the
balljoint front ends and are pre emmisions. Earlier cars could be used, but
would require considerable modification to the front end. Floor pans are
usually replaced, the only thing recycled is the center beam section, which
holds the VIN. If you are interested, check out www.beetlemex.com  FWIW, I
live very close to a Mexican VW dealership, and I could get parts for VW
guys.
