An interesting spin, of course Piggott was a TR fan. Let's not let the TR
folks give us too-rosy a pair of glasses. Fact is, Fergusson needed a motor
for it's tractors. Standard-Triumph needed a motor , well, for everything.
Neither one had the money to go it alone, so they teamed up. So "original
intended use when conceived" depends on which end of the ownership spin you
choose to look at.. obviously M-Ferg. wasn't intending to use their
development money to build a CAR engine....
(btw I do own a Tr***** Tr4 with the engine in question installed, I'm so I'm
not working from an anti-TR bias, just being realistic... <g>

-------original message----------------------

Bill Piggott in "Original Triumph TR" (p.22)--"Much has been made over the
years of the TR having a 'tractor' engine: although this engine was used in
various forms for many years in the Ferguson tractors manufactured by
Standard-Triumph, this was not its intended use when conceived."
(ed. note: That ought to clear it up!)
