I just did this yesterday on an 18V engine.  I used a small chisel with a light 
hammer to loosen the rivets (hit them on a couple of sides) and then a pair of 
pliers/vice grips to twist them right out - they've got spirals cut into the 
shaft.  No damage to the id plate and just a few marks on the rivets.

After almost 12 years with no British cars, a '72 B just arrived in my garage 
last week.  Engine already pulled and disassembled for rebuild, needs paint and 
cosmetics but no rust!!  I'm in Ohio and had to go to Atlanta to find a rust 
free one!  BTW, I'm new to the list too!
