I got my version from a really old English mechanic I apprenticed under
in Ontario, Canada in the 60s: Bill Dillon. Bill used to race the tiny
Cooper racing cars at the same venues as Sterling Moss in the old days.
After that, he moved to Ontario and had a garage and service station
(back when that meant something) in Erindale. Bill had worked for Morris
in the old days. He stated quite emphatically that MOWOG stood for
MO riss WO lsely G arages.

The only time I ever knew him to be wrong was when he tried to reach
through the fan to fetch a dropped socket when the fan wasn't really
standing still at all, but looked that way because of the strobe effect
of the new timing light. Another finger lost to an upgrade in
technology, sorry to say.

I've always considered him to be correct about MOWOG.
