Yesterday, Rex got his first ever dose of unleaded fuel, with a measured
addition of Castrol Valvemaster Plus.
I was a little concerned about using hiked 95 RON fuel in a car with
9.7:1 compression but was pleasantly surprised. I went to fill up with
the tank practically empty, so the lion's share of what then went
through the carbs was the new stuff. I immediately noticed an
improvement in mid range running and a distinctly smoother tickover. No
pinking (knocking) occurred and in traffic, all I noticed was a very
small increase in running temperature.
So, although it's early days, the unleaded experience has been painless.
This just makes me wonder about the quality of the leaded petrol I was
using.
