Dave,

This is the "3-main" box with L-D-H O/D unit. I'll go check serial #'s and be
right back.

The plate on the O/D unit has the following number on it: 25/3308/005904. I
don't know how, if at all, one can interpret these numbers, but that's them!
I did not see a serial # on the transmission itself, but I admit I was not
very thorough. The wiring is still intact as is the shifter, driveshaft
flange, etc. Someone else asked if it comes with the driveshaft. The answer
is no, because the length from engine backing plate to driveshaft flange is
common with the standard transmission. Therefore, you retain the existing DS.

You just replace the existing transmission with this one (have it checked
first before installing it!!!); install a new clutch and T-O bearing, replace
the rear engine seals, transmission seals (front and rear)... all the common
sense stuff that is easy when the drive train is out, but impossible when it
is in, and of course check the O/D solenoid on the bench. Then, and only then
should you put it all back together.

Assuming your car is running perfectly now, I'd advise you to ask the list
for opinions on what to do and how to proceed with the transplant before
beginning. There are some very bright and experienced MG people out there. If
you get things ready for the surgery, have an engine lift and hopefully a
spare pair of hands, this transplant part of the job can be done in a weekend
with time to spare.

When I went out to the barn to get the numbers, the transmission told me it
was sick and damn tired of sitting out there with nothing to do. It wants to
go back to work making someone's MG go fast, and quieter. If I keep talking
and thinking about this, I'm going to start installing it in my MGA1600.
