Jim,
this jogged my memory, I recalled seeing a cartoon along these lines
in a book somewhere. Took some finding but here it is.

MG The AB&C, by Chris Harvey from Oxford Press Ltd 1980 ISBN 0 902280 69 4,
cartoon by Tim Holder, Motorbooks Int are the American distributors.

The facing page to chapter one shows a 'Suit' holding a TR7 with a Leyland
'Seal of approval' Rosette on it and he is kicking behind him with his left
foot an MGB tied to a banner with a bow, the banner reads 'Golden
anniversary 50 Glorious Years'. Behind the suit there is a crowd of
protesters with MG flags and placards also the sun is going down behind a
black cloud. The caption for the cartoon is on the facing page and goes like
this,

TRADITIONAL LAMENT ARRANGED BY BRITISH LEYLAND

Hurrah, Hurrah, we bring the jubilee!
Give the good old Berkshire boys yet another song.
Sing it as we used to sing it fifty thousand strong,
as we were marching through Abingdon.

If anyone would like a scan of this gem let me know and I'll get to it.
Usual disclaimer of no interest Yadda Yadda.
