Beware of cheap aftermarket fuel pumps:

Recently,I needed to replace a dead aftermarket fuel pump that the DPO
installed. I  purchased an aftermarket unit from PEP boys, but it
decided to seize after an hour of use.  I'm really upset about this, not
only did it seize but it overheated and started to BOIL the fuel in it!

I was doing a spring tune-up, when the pump started to slow, eventually
stopping. At first I thought it had a pressure cutout switch and just
turned itself off when it reached pressure, but then I could smell that
"electrical burning" smell . I quickly clamped off the fuel lines,
unbolted the pump and literally tore it out of the car. Smoke was
curling from the case as well. I'm just finishing up a 2 year
restoration and I imagined the whole thing going up in flames.

I don't recall the brand name, but it was a popular brand, I'll have to
dig around for the box and post the name to the list.  The unit is a
silver, can style unit about 2 1/2" in diameter, with two screw
terminals on the top. It kills me to think I paid $50.00 for this piece
of junk. Needless to say, I'm in the market for another fuel pump...


Has anybody tried the Solid State version of the SU fuel pumps?
Opinions?
Do the SU pumps require the banjo fittings and hoses shown in the Moss
catalog or can I screw a fitting into the inlet & outlet to use with
fuel line and a hose clamp?

Or can anyone recommend a reliable aftermarket pump?
