Who you gonna call? Carbusters.com!

By David Williams, Motoring Correspondent

An audacious assault on "rip-off" new car prices was launched today by the
Consumers' Association which fired up an on-line importation service for
"cheap"
cars.

Carbusters.com is offering thousands of motorists the chance to buy cars
from
overseas dealers at huge savings. It is bound to alarm traditional car
dealers
and manufacturers who have been under intense pressure through falling sales
to
private buyers.

As part of the association's Great British Rip-Off campaign first unveiled
at
the London Motor Show last year, the service is available to any internet
user.
During exhaustive three-month trials 83 cars with full UK specifications,
worth
more than £1.5 million, were ordered using the CA's service.

According to the organisation, which has consistently accused car firms of
overcharging British customers, buyers saved more than £270,000 by using
carbusters.com during trial runs.

Average savings were £3,000 to £4,000 per car during the pilot phase which
coincided with a call from the CA for buyers to boycott traditional car
dealerships.
