As sofar I can see in my '71 BGT these units are quite different from
eachother!
So they're not interchangable to my opinion.

It sounds to me like the blinker unit is bad as the hazard seems to be
working alright.  Have you tried switching the hazard blinker with the turn
signal blinker to see if the problem moves with the switch?
