I have a Technalon cover for my other car. It is thick and protects the
finish well. My cat has managed to put a few holes in it near the corners
via claw-sharpening. Heavy rain will cause all the collected dust on it
to filter through onto the paint, requiring you to wash car and cover.
Very few types of cover are actually waterproof. I previously had a
flannel cover -- No. California sun pretty much disintegrated it in a few
years; I imagine Texas sun may be even more potent. For any type cover I
would recommend a custom fit for the B, since a generic "sedan-cut" will
have so much extra fabric that it will drag in the dirt, blow around, and
generally be a nuisance (not to mention taking up precious space in the
boot).
