Glad to hear you made it through your trip. Do you have overdrive? I find 
that it cuts down the noise significantly. Try retarding the timing a 
little bit at a time until the pinging goes away. Of course, if you have 
to adjust the timing too far, then your only recourse may be to lower 
compression.
