Hi Gang,
If you read this thread in it's first generation, you will
know that I rebuilt an MGB engine then discovered
when it was time to adjust the valves that the engine
was too tight to turn over. FWIW, this is FAR from
the first engine I have rebuilt. However, it is the ONLY
one that has me stumped.
Many offered great suggestions. I tried them all.
Over the last few days I have disassembled the engine
back down to the point where I began. The crank is
STILL locked. Earlier at this state of disassembly, it
turned freely but in 20/20 hindsight I do remember that
it got "stuck" once as if something was binding. A sharp
yank on the crank freed it. Preview of coming attraction?
As of now and excluding the main bearings (which were
not touched), the only uninvestigated area is the timing
chain. If something broke in that area and wedged against
the cover (or worse) this might be the source. Thoughts?
Remember, the crank will not turn in either direction. All
advice appreciated.

Frustrated,

Rick Lindsay
