Most tire specialists recommend replacement of radials after ten years and
8.5 with 40 k is probably approaching end of their life span anyhow. New
radials are pretty inexpensive relative to cost of body work or a funeral.
However, if you do drive them, inspect them frequently for the beginning of
sidewall de-lamination. You'll need to look on the insides of the tires
since that's usually where it starts. Sidewall delamination usually is felt
first as a sort of wheel-out-of-round feeling at low speeds. If you EVER
feel that, stop IMMEDIATELY and inspect the tires. Over 100 deceased
Firestone owners might be in better condition today if they had done that.
