Bud,

The valves and pistons never interfere (unless the timing chain breaks).
What you have to worry about is interference between the exhaust valve and
the block, which can occur on MGA and early B engines.

Your '77 18V block has reliefs machined in it to prevent this occurring so
you have nothing to worry about.
