Hi Gang,
The engine number plate has come off of my car's
engine either by accident or intentionally. The reason
doesn't matter. I want to place a new plate there if
only for cosmetics. This leads to questions (and I am
sure the potential for a few flames).
My car is a 1970 MGB-GT built with these numbers
attached:

 Car number (VIN): GHD5UA191047G
 Body number: GBUD513155Z*A
 Commission number: 019175
 Manufacture date: November 1969

Various texts and catalogs state that the 1970 year-
model B-GTs' engine numbers started at 18GH/-/22209.
Is there a systematic that will allow me to approximate
the correct engine number for my car? If so, how
EXACTLY should the engine plate be stamped. My
sources indicate that 31,513 GT cars were made in the
1970 model-year. Mine was the 3106th made for that
year. If there is a linear relationship, then my engine number
should have been somewhere around 25415. Assuming
that is (somewhat) correct, what should be stamped on
the engine number plate? In other words, what goes in
the space where the " - " is in the sequence? How
specifically should the plate read?
   All constructive thoughts appreciated.
