Frustration peaks for me when time is too short and
I am tempted to take short cuts. That is a hard one
to fight down.

The heat shield was degreased and repainted using an
engine paint made by PlastiCoat in a color called
"rough cast aluminum." It is exactly the color of a
fresh aluminum casting. Stunning stuff. I used it on
the head and crankcase of my Lancia motor too.

The heat shield has asbestos on the manifold side so don't
be tempted to scrub it clean. The fibers are NASTY. After
chemical degreasing I just painted the asbestos knowing that
it would discolor with time but that is on the back of the shield.
The paint also seals those fibers in to some degree.
The exhaust is painted with a 1500 degree (F) exhaust
paint just to abate rust. I thought it would cure into a nice
tan or brown but after 15 minutes of running at 1600rpm,
there is no discoloration at all. Perhaps with time...

:-] THAT is the correct solution. I just don't like the
'rusty iron header' look and took a cheaper solution.
