The GT goes into the paint shop this week sans doors, bonnet and hatch.
After stripping down the doors to the shell I decided to replace the factory
sound deadening panels on the inside skin. This factory material has small
evenly spaced perforations which go through the material making a great
place for water to go. To remove this gunk I used a heat gun(hair dryer not
hot enough) and evenly heated the material while prying up with a putty
knife. After getting most of it up I used an angle grinder and cup brush to
finish up. Each door took about 20 minutes. My suspicions were confirmed
when I found small spots of rust on the skin at each hole in the material.
Replacement panels are available from various sources. When applying panels
first heat the inside of the door skin and the panel. Apply
panel by starting from one end working to the other. I apply pressure with
a wallpaper roller in insure complete adhesion. I completely paint the
door interior with Eastwood's Corroless rust preventative paint (a
bitpricey, but good) and allow it to run into the seams. I hope this info
