behind mirror. Easy fix?

My suggestion is that if you do not weld, find a comrade at your station
who does and pay him to fix it. I have the infamous Crack O'doom on my
passenger door. It has been bothering me for the 2 years I've owned my '76
because I could see what would happen. And besides, it is ugly.

I took it to a body shop 2 days ago (I don't weld) and, although I held my
breath when the proprietor told me how much so he did not see how shocked
I was, I ok'd it anyways (peanut butter and dry toast for the next
4 months).

This topic was discussed on the list last year and maybe the year before
and maybe even before that so some welding pros might tell you the details
if you already have the skills. What is being done to my car is insertion
of a metal piece welded behind the crack, then each side
of the crack is
welded to the internal support piece. or something like that with the
requisite body work and repainting done after (of course).

The fellow who is doing the work said mine (which he complimented for the
good shape the other bits of the car is in) was the nicest of the 5 he has
done in the last 2 years. In other words, a fairly common problem.
(Check the list archives for the discussion about this problem.)

Regards,
Bill
