Usually there is a springy clip thingy that you can see from
underneath - it locks onto the annular groove in the post. If you
rock it in one dimension (usually horizontally) it will work
loose. Sometimes a flat screwdriver in the hand (not against paint
or chrome) gives you a bit more leverage or the screwdriver blade
can be used to release the clip a little, while rocking.
