Went after the wee beastie again last night (the car, not my fiance).

After a quart of "Simple Green" the engine bay looked almost civilized,
though there were still lots of walnut and acorn shells tucked away in dark
corners. Pulled out about 20lbs of junk from behind the brake booster
through the small access hole. EEEESH!!!

Checked the engine over. The URP switch leads were chewed through, so cut
them off and moved them out of the way. It looks like the engine mount
plates were replaced as they are not cracked, and a bit of an old one was
stuck near to the fuse box. The ground strap was probably left off, as the
heater control cable is melted. Too dark and grungy down there still to
tell for sure.

Used a pair of mini jumper cables to properly ground the engine, then tried
turning the motor over.

Engine turns over fine, but no ticky-ticky from the fuel pump. Big hammer
didn't help, so out it must come.

By that time it was well past dark thirty, and heading into beer time, so
downed tools and toddled off to bed.

By the by, the spare wheel and tire headed straight for the trash can, after
I removed the original aluminium trim ring. The tire had a bad case of
Colorado snow tire syndrome. (These are special snow tires that have steel
wire fronds sticking out of the sidewalls to sweep the snow away from in
front of the tire). Luckily I was given a pair of Rostyles with almost new
185/70s on them by a co-worker, so the rear pair of mismatched crossplies on
rusted Rostyles go off to trash city tonight.

In the light of day, the quick washup made the outside of the car look
almost presentable. The original paint is in fairly decent shape except for
the hood which looks to have been repainted (badly, Earl Schieb perhaps?)

Stay tuned for the next thrilling installment of......As the Roadster turns.
