No - moderation is not a good thing at all. It means that all email has to
be reviewed before it gets posted, meaning delays that can vary from
minutes, to hours, and maybe even longer, depending on the moderator.

Moderation may be necessary if a group degenerates into a Usenet type of
mess where the list starts getting hit with lots of spam and/or flames.
This group is exceptionally clean. Sure there have been a few flare ups
that got out of hand but how often does that happen? Less than one a month?

I've been on this list for seven years now. There were times it got way
more worse than now, in fact I unsubscribed for several months back in
1998 or 1999 when the volume of email went way up and the relevance of the
messages went way down. But the list has been very good the past year or
two, as good as it has ever been. And I like its spontaneity and quick
responses. I can send this email or any other that may warrant a response
and get replies back, sometimes in a matter of minutes. And that is really
nice when I need some quick car advice.
