The pinion must be removed through the steering rack.  Clean the shaft (dirt
and grease prevent smooth movement and may damage the seal if forced).

Do this by removing the plate on top of the rack.  Keep track of the shims.
Remove the plunger and springf.  Then remove the shaft through the front of
the rack.

The pinion will turn as the shaft is removed.  Try to mark it's position as
soon as the gear disengages.  Then do not move the wheels.   The pinion will
only fit the u-joint one way, but will fit the rack as many ways as there are
teeth.  It can be a real pain the line things up if moved.

With the pinion back in place, put 90W gear lube in the rack through the top
of the rack.  Move the wheels from side to side to make sure that it spreads
throughout the rack and you have enough lube.

When replacing the shims, remove the thinnest before reassembling.
