I was once told by an "oil engineer" that if the "additives" did any good
then the oil companies would use or sell them. I heard that the company
that sold the stuff that allowed engines to run even when you put sand on
the rockers was successfully sued for mis-advertising - their adverts were
rigged!!! I additives come into the category of advertising beats consumer
intelligence - something like Nike who sell $5 shoes for hundreds of dollars!!
I remember reading about Molyslip which claimed the stuff formed little
rolls of molybdenum sulphide which acted like needle bearings thus reduced
wear. But apparently what the didn't say was these "bearings" got bigger,
and BIGger, and BIGGER ! Naturally the article was condemning the stuff so
who knows?
