I haven't tried this, but it's not for fear of the DOT3/4 harming the
springs. Parts of the hydraulic system are ferrous metal, and it seems
to be the water in the brake fluid that causes them harm.
Some owners spray silicone lubricants on the springs, and some use
Waxoyl.
