oil filter seal on late MGB

Still stripping down my engine ('79 B).  Removed the oil filter unit, and
see that the seal is still stuck in the block.  I tried getting at it with a
pick, but didn't make much progress except for bending the tip of my
pick....

Any hints on getting this to turn loose?
