Having been in the manufacture & distribution of vinyl & leather
furnishings for many years, I thought I'd add a little more to this
thread. I'll do it in the form of a question.
Do you know why most of our dashboards ultimately crack, or why the
leather seats start looking dry & sorta tired?
I thas been my experience that using soap & water, while being 100%
accurate in CLEANING of vinyl & leather, it does not address MAINTENANCE
of said products.
By using polymer enhancers for vinyl on a sparse but regular basis, say
twice a year, the polymers are re-introduced to the vinyl & DO prevent
cracking.
For leather, being a dead skin, washing with soap & water without
maintaining its suppleness & look merely removes stains but DRIES it
out, much like washing your hands. Our skin is constantly being
moisturised from within. Leather cannot do that.
Someone mentioned saddle soap, which is a good example for leather.
Ever wonder why leather once treated lasts for so many years.
Armorall, or similar products will keep vinyl looking fresh, without
splitting for years, providing you use it sparingly & buff it up very,
very well after application.
Leather also needs a conditioner containing, lanolin, beeswax & a
compound to mix the two & to allow it to be viscous.
There are many legitimate leather conditioners available.
Can you imagine what a football would look like without constant
applications of Dubbin?
