Hi all,

I'm back from the 24 Heures du Le Mans. A big disappointment yet again, but
again as last year the experience makes it worthwhile. I was awake in the
stands for the Lola MG privateer to light up the big screen in a big way,
and around 1am for the 26 car to suddenly slow on the main straight then
pull off the road to retire. With only 27 still running and Paul H. - the
nightowl he is - texting me that we were in 10th (?) place and leading the
class from the Courage Peugeout 2 laps down. Unfortunately about a minute
later 27 also retired. So, very sad. Apparently we won't see MG back next
year, but it has been fun to see the MG's at Le Mans, something I never
thought I'd ever get to see. Also to hear the British crowd cheer the MG's
this year, something only Bentley received the year before. The biggest
cheer of the weekend came when England beat Denmark 3-0 in the Football and
the result was flashed up on the big screen - accompanied of course by
strains of God Save the Queen. As a Brit passport holding Kiwi I almost came
over all gooey.. Naahhh... <G> On the Ferry back to Dover we were
accompanied by two "real" Bentleys - of the 1920's Le Mans winning fame.
Beautiful.

I shot many, many, many rolls of film over the weekend and I will try and
put the best of them up on my website. Will let everyone know when they are
live.

Our V8's managed the trip with few problems, Vee, Pauls Car with a slight
water loss issue, and mine with a hot starting problem - but neither major
and we made it from Newhaven in the UK to Dieppe France, to Chartres then to
Le Mans, Le Mans back to Chartres, Chartres to Calais (where Paul completely
emptied the Hypermarket of Alchohol ;) and I picked up a bottle of Veuve for
#10!!!!!) and finally for me Dover back to Portsmouth. It must have been
30deg C today and for the last couple of days so the V8's did really well
being of Pommie descent ;). I even managed to embarass an Alfa Spider
Convertible on the way home. Piece o cake, bloody girls car. ;) <VBG>

Cheers,
Neil
