Greetings!

A while back there was some discussion as to the "original" powerplant used
by Costello/MG for the V8. Below is the text of an e-mail I received today
from Ken Costello that should clear up any questions as to what he originally
used.

Hello Rick & Jean

Hope you are well.

The first ali V8 I saw was a GM Buick 215 cu in. The actual unit first
fitted to the 65' MGB was in fact an OLDS: identical to the Buick apart from
a extra row of cyl/head studs, different combustion chamber shape (bath
type). The OLD's was the one that was turbo charged by GM for the rocket
model.

Rover obtained licence from GM for the production of the Buick 215 cu in.
The Buick produced by GM was die-cast and the Rover was sand cast. The
changes by Rover were extra bosses for bolt-ons, alternator bracket, etc,
comp ratio was varied by dished pistons.
Rover desinations are 3.5 (215), 3.9 - 4.2 & 4.6.

Regards

Ken
