Hey Gang, postscript on my earlier questions regarding static ignition
timing.

I brainfarted and used Pertronix in my original post, instead of what I've
really got: an older Luminition/Crane optical ignition setup. Thanks to
those who responded re: the Pertronix. Anyhow, through some on-line research
I've deduced that the uninterrupted light beam is akin to points being
closed, which activates the coil to do its field-building, charge-inducing
high tension circuit thing. When the beam is interrupted by the 4-bladed
disc (one blade for each cylinder), the coil's field collapses and
sparkature (I made that up) occurs at the plug. So anyhow, I've decided to
setup the motor's static timing at 10 degrees BTDC by setting the dizzy so
that the beam is just about to be interrupted, then dynamically time it from
there when the motor's running. Plenty of great info out there on the theory
of ignition circuitry, especially starting from Paul Tegler's excellent
website. Definitely worth a read when you're done wrench-bending for the
