Not done it but heard of it elsewhere.  You'll need to power the tach from a
smoothed supply i.e. a battery, and run a coil in series with the inductive
loop and charger.  You should be able to test a later, voltage-triggered
type as well but with the charger and coil in series and with the tach
signal wire to the +ve and its ground to the -ve.
