Dan: The pistons can somewhat easily be pulled with the motor in the car. You
have to remove the pan and the head of course. The pan can be a minor
irritiation. I generally jack up  the tranny slightly to stretch the motor 
mounts
just enough to provide access to the front pan bolts which I then reach with a
1/4 inch ratchet. On my rubber bumper B I reach around the front cross member . 
I
have done this numerous times. Do you have a ring compressor for installing the
new rings? If you are close to me in southern Rhode Island I'll be glad to give
you a hand.
