Drove the TD to church yesterday and then let it sit until late
afternoon, when it of course was raining and turned cold. Pulled the
choke and started the car. Left the choke out for the first few miles
and also had to hit the interstate, which I hate to do in the old gal.
By the time I reached the exit for home, about 8 miles the car was
sputtering and backfiring, bleaching black smoke and no power to speak
of. It would idle just fine, but under load had very little power.
Made it to a small local garage who has worked on it in the past and
he was kind enough to let me get it in out of the rain until Tuesday.
He pulled one of the plugs and it was pretty fouled. I don't recall
when in the drive I pushed the choke back and also was running the car
at around 60 MPH on the interstate.
I wonder if l left the choke out to long and managed to foul the
plugs? Is that possible at high speed?
Also, a few days prior the rear carb was weeping gas and I tightened a
couple of bolts and checking it on Sunday it was not leaking any
more. May just need some new plugs or I should have stayed at church
longer.
