I built one of these.  Didn't work all that well, mainly because I was
trying to glue in the hose to the cap.  Using an actual fitting would
probably work better.  But given the relatively low price of products like
the Mity-Vac, I think they're probably a better way to go, unless you're
really into building your own tools.
